LTI vs. Plagiarism Framework

Turnitin has different integrations with Canvas that allow instructors to choose which workflow and tools work best to fulfill the needs and objectives of their assignment. If you are a Feedback Studio customer, these integrations are designed to work alongside each other and therefore can be set up in the same Canvas environment. In addition, instructors can use both integrations in their course at the same time, using the LTI workflow for one assignment for example but the Plagiarism Framework workflow for another.

The Plagiarism Framework integration is designed to work within the Canvas Assignment workflow, while the LTI integration is designed as an External Tool. Below is a chart to compare the integrations and their functions.

Please note that with the move to LTI 1.3 as the industry standard, the LTI 1.3 integration is recommended over the LTI 1.1 integration. If you are currently using the LTI 1.1 integration, you may want to consider moving to LTI 1.3. Please check out our Migration Hub for recommendations.

If you are using Canvas Open Source, you can only use the LTI integration.
