Migrating from Building Blocks to LTI 1.3

Why do we need to migrate?

The Blackboard Learn Basic and Direct V2.5 Building Blocks are no longer available.

As part of Turnitin’s commitment to providing the best customer experience and helping you get the most out of our solutions, we have retired the Blackboard Basic and Blackboard Direct Building Blocks.

This allows us to shift focus on providing a unified LTI 1.3 integration option with access to all Turnitin Feedback Studio features, and without the requirement for institutions to regularly upgrade their experience.

It is possible to run both a Turnitin Blackboard Building Block (Basic or Direct v2.5) integration and the LTI 1.3 integration concurrently while transitioning over to the LTI integration. When completing the process of moving integrations there are a number of situations to consider dependent on your institution’s access path.

There is no assignment migration path between the Building Blocks and LTI 1.3. New assignments need to be created as you enter the new academic year. Once the Building Block integrations are retired, instructors will only retain access to past assignments by logging in via turnitin.com/turnitinuk.com.

Are there any differences between Blackboard Basic and Blackboard Direct migrations?

Once your institution has made the decision to make the LTI 1.3 integration the only available option for Turnitin enabled assignments, there are Blackboard administrator options available to reduce instructor access to the Building Blocks, prior to the full removal of the integration.
